If the site cannot receive ready cabinets, contact the seller and delivery organizer while there is still time to change the arrangement. Explain what prevents receipt and whether a reliable new date is known. Ask where the goods are now and which changes are still possible at that stage. The decision should identify a real receiving or holding location, a responsible contact and a route back into the project, rather than leave the freight waiting for an undefined site-ready date.
Diagram A revised plan needs a confirmed receiving location and a later move to the project; no storage service or fee is represented.
Establish what cannot happen at the original site
Describe the actual obstacle: the receiving area is unavailable, access is blocked, work is creating unsuitable conditions or nobody can manage the handoff. Distinguish inability to install from inability to receive. Cabinets might be stored appropriately before installation, but the existence of an empty room does not establish that it is suitable or that the booked delivery reaches it.
Tell the organizer whether the obstacle has a confirmed resolution or remains uncertain. A firm revised appointment and an open-ended delay require different planning. Also confirm the shipment's stage: a requested dispatch hold is different from changing an appointment after transport begins. Ask what has actually been accepted, since sending a request does not itself reroute or stop a truck.
Compare available arrangements on the same basis
Ask whether the seller can retain the goods, the delivery can be rescheduled or an appropriate alternate destination can receive them. Treat these as inquiries, not assumed services. For each available option, identify the location, receiving contact, storage conditions, access for inspection and the later move to the project. Confirm who organizes that later movement and what information they will need.
Avoid making an unsuccessful delivery attempt the default storage plan. Estes explains that undelivered freight can enter storage and be subject to applicable charges. That is a reason to obtain the actual arrangement in advance, not a promise of suitable long-term storage or an interpretation of who owes a particular charge.
Request a written breakdown for the proposed option, including any applicable holding, handling, changed delivery or onward transport charges. Ask what event begins each charge, how it is calculated and what ends it. Clarify whether the estimate assumes a known release date, and what happens to the estimate if the site remains unavailable longer than expected.
Compare the full path to the usable destination. A low storage quote may omit unloading into the facility, retrieval or the next transport leg. A revised delivery quote may require a different receiving arrangement. Keep known amounts separate from items awaiting a quote, and do not treat a blank field as a free service. Use the actual provider's terms without inventing a standard fee.
Plan the release as carefully as the hold
Agree who tells the holder that the site is ready and what evidence of readiness is needed. Confirm how a new delivery appointment is requested and whether receiving labor or building access must be rebooked separately. Keep the order and shipment references with the stored inventory so the onward shipment includes the intended goods, including loose or separately packed components.
Imagine cabinets are moved to a temporary receiving facility while site work is unfinished. The buyer knows the weekly holding basis but has not arranged collection or delivery out. When the contractor is ready, the cabinets still have no confirmed route to the site. Asking about release handling and onward booking at the start would expose that gap before storage becomes the next scheduling problem.
Confirm the revised handoff and keep it current
Share the accepted location, contact, dates or review point, and scope of services with the seller, delivery organizer and project lead. Identify who will check arrival condition and who can access the stored goods. If inspection is deferred, make that limitation explicit and confirm the supplier's reporting process rather than assuming storage pauses every requirement.
Update the arrangement when the site schedule changes again. Retain the accepted instructions and subsequent confirmations so an old address or appointment is not used accidentally. The useful result is a shipment with an agreed place to go, understood cost inputs and a defined next move. A vague request to hold it until the project is ready leaves each of those decisions unresolved.

Design study These finish studies are design references, not a list of currently orderable colors. Screens and lighting change the appearance; compare a physical sample before choosing.See all finish options →
The sample shows the door frame, a separate center panel, the face frame and the cabinet box. Each component has its own place in this Shaker construction.
Shaker construction: door frame, center panel, face frame and cabinet box. The cutaway helps locate these parts; confirm each material in the specifications for the selected cabinet.
01 / Door frame
The Shaker door has rails and stiles around a separate center panel. The frame and center panel are different components; confirm their materials in the specifications for the selected cabinet.
02 / Face frame
The face frame surrounds the opening at the front of the cabinet box and sits behind the doors. The face frame, door frame and cabinet box are separate parts.
03 / Cabinet box
The sample exposes the cabinet sides, interior surfaces and layered edges. The image does not establish the wood species or material specification of a selected cabinet.
