Bath & laundry planning
Reverse the dryer door or rearrange the laundry cabinets?
Check an expressly supported dryer-door reversal before changing the cabinet layout to solve a transfer conflict. Reversing the right candidate can improve the route between machine openings while retaining useful storage. It will not solve every collision, change the door's total reach or make another appliance reversible. Compare both finished open states before approving either the appliance configuration or a replacement cabinet order.

Describe the conflict precisely
Place the proposed washer, dryer and storage in plan with the ordinary doors open. Identify whether the problem is contact between objects, blocked access to a machine, or the user's route while holding clothing. These are different failures. A dryer door might miss the cabinet physically yet stand between the washer opening and the person's intended transfer position.
Ask the user to follow an ordinary load through both openings with the real basket. Do not stop at a drawing showing that each door can reach its maximum angle separately. The difficult movement may occur when the washer door, dryer door and basket are present together. A useful purchasing comparison shows that occupied state rather than a sequence of individually clear empty-room drawings.
Whirlpool lists a reversible door on its identified dryer product page. This establishes a model-specific option, not a universal property of laundry doors.

Verify that reversal belongs to the selected purchase
Obtain the candidate model's applicable instructions or an explicit answer tied to its identity. Check the actual variant and any relevant accessory conditions. Do not rely on a salesperson saying most dryer doors reverse, and do not extend a dryer's supported option to the washer beside it. The cabinet drawing needs the handing that will actually be supplied or implemented for this equipment.
Assign responsibility for the work. If the proposal depends on delivery or installation personnel changing the door, confirm that scope with them and include it in the order. A manufacturer instruction does not establish that the service has already been purchased. This article compares configurations; the actual procedure should remain with the appropriate instructions and the party performing the work.
Redraw everything the changed hand affects
- A
- A: original transfer obstruction
- B
- B: supported reversed swing
- C
- C: retained cabinet access
Reversal moves the hinge and latch relationships. Draw the supported new open state with adjacent cabinet handles, side panels and the nearest wall. The changed swing may improve transfer while moving the open door into another obstruction. It can also change where the user stands to reach the opening, so repeat the basket and clothing trial after the room is redrawn.
The outside width of the machine has not become smaller. Do not award extra permanent storage simply because the door swings another way. If the changed hand lets a cabinet remain where it is, that retained cabinet is the actual benefit. If the proposed cabinet still obstructs the machine opening or standing position, reversal has not solved the project and another arrangement is required.
Compare a retained cabinet with a moved cabinet
Imagine a hypothetical laundry where the existing side cabinet supports daily work. The documented reversed-door proposal, A, would preserve it. Retaining the original opening in proposal B would require moving the cabinet to another wall.
In the full open-state trial, A lets the owner move the intended load from washer to dryer without going around the open dryer door. The side cabinet still opens for supplies, and the reviewed clearance and access relationships remain acceptable. The installer also confirms the required door work within the actual purchase scope.
B resolves the original transfer obstruction but places the cabinet across the route used to bring clean baskets out of the room. Moving its supplies elsewhere would sacrifice a more frequently used task than the change improves. The owner chooses A after both complete arrangements are tested. If reversal had created a wall conflict or were unsupported, B would need redesign; an imagined door option would not be grounds to retain the cabinet.
Check ordinary retrieval during appliance use
Open the cabinet that holds products used during laundry and repeat the relevant retrieval. A better transfer path should not be purchased by making routine supplies inaccessible whenever the dryer door is open. Consider the actual order of tasks: some items are retrieved before loading, while others are needed after a cycle ends. Do not require every door to remain open indefinitely, but make normal overlaps visible.
Also review any outer closet or room door. A changed appliance hand can improve the path between machines while interacting differently with the enclosure door. The finished room includes both. Confirm the selected appliance's enclosure and access requirements independently; a successful human movement test does not substitute for its installation review.
Keep the final door hand with the equipment identity
Record the installed hinge side in the final plan and the responsible party's order notes. A future equipment substitution must trigger the same review, even if the replacement body fits the old bay. Door options, projections and configurations can differ. A plan showing the accepted open state is more useful than a label saying reversible dryer.
Choose the supported door change when it resolves the actual movement conflict and preserves a cabinet with a real job. Rearrange the cabinets when the equipment cannot provide that option or the reversed state creates another important obstruction. The useful purchase is the complete, confirmed operating arrangement; reversal earns its value only after the person, clothing and surrounding storage can work together.
